Mexico › Textile Artisans of Tlaxcala

In collaboration with the state of Tlaxcala, we implemented a 7-month project titled "Artisanal Textiles of Tlaxcala." The project aimed to enhance the competitiveness of Tlaxcala’s textiles, thereby improving the standard of living for artisans and their communities while preserving their traditional techniques. Working with 40 artisans from municipalities such as Contla, Chiautempan, Ixtenco, San Pablo del Monte, Calpulalpan, and Panotla, we focused on modernizing designs to enrich the cultural heritage with contemporary elements, updating business skills, and expanding access to new markets.

Key Achievements:

  • Conducted a stakeholder meeting with beneficiaries, funders, and local partners involved in the project.

  • Performed a rapid assessment of artisan skills in weaving, crochet, and embroidery.

  • Held an international design workshop to create a new product line for exhibition at NY NOW in August 2017.

  • Organized several local design workshops as follow-up to the international consultancy.

  • Collaborated with over 40 artisans, 95% of whom were women, and developed over 75 new products.
