Global › MADE51 Global Workshop 2020
From November 30 to December 4, 2020, we partnered with MADE51, a UNHCR initiative, to deliver a global virtual workshop supporting refugee artisan enterprises. The workshop brought together over 100 participants—including Local Social Enterprises (LSEs), UNHCR staff, strategic partners, and artisan leaders—from around the world to explore current handmade sector trends, enhance online marketing strategies, and strengthen global sales and supply chains for MADE51 products.
Led by Training Director Lauren Barkume and supported by technical staff, the workshop featured expert-led panels, collaborative breakout sessions, and in-depth discussions across five key themes: global networks, design trends, supply chain management, sales channels, and online marketing. The program successfully deepened peer learning, launched an LSE Steering Committee, and laid the groundwork for more cohesive collaboration and collective marketing among refugee-led artisan groups.
Key Achievements:
Facilitated 5 thematic days with expert panels and artisan-led breakout discussions, focused on design, sales, and marketing strategies.
Supported the formation of the LSE Steering Committee to coordinate ongoing collaboration among refugee social enterprises.
Delivered virtual training and facilitation to over 100 participants using Zoom, and introduced engaging tools and formats to improve remote learning.
Identified best practices for future workshops, including modular thematic sessions and the need for onboarding training for new LSEs.
