Haiti › Organic Soap Making Workshops and Linkage to Local Markets and Hotel Buyers for Women Artisans of the Central Region of Haiti
With support from the Centre for the Development of Enterprise (CDE) and its Santo Domingo office, we conducted two organic soap-making workshops and a larger production run for Pwodiksyon Fanm Plato Santral (PWOFAPLAS), an agribusiness created by 15 women artisans. The project included intensive marketing efforts that linked the enterprise to Haitian hotels and tourist stores, contributing to poverty reduction and enhancing the sustainability of the local women’s enterprise through expanded sales and entrepreneurial training.
Key Achievements:
Produced seven types of organic soaps using local ingredients, currently in the drying process.
Fleurette Dubuisson planned to imprint soaps with a religious image for sale at the Saut d’Eau festival.
Six of the fifteen women worked on orders from Belzeb at the Femme en Democratie craft show.
Three women sought funding to attend the ATA Market Readiness Program at NY NOW to learn about selling to US buyers and exporting.
All fifteen women became skilled soap-makers through the training, capable of producing and selling soaps independently.
