Haiti › Champions for Change: Mitigating the Impact of HIV/AIDS in Haiti Cap Haitien, Haiti

Funded by the U.K.'s Big Lottery Fund, we worked on a three-year project in Haiti called “Champions for Change: Mitigating the Impact of HIV/AIDS.” The project aimed to reintegrate people living with HIV into economic life through handmade crafts, launching product development and capacity-building workshops for bamboo jewelry with 60 individuals in nine northern communities. We also planned to continue these workshops using new local materials to expand product collections and enhance sales in local tourist markets.

Key Achievements:

  • Trained 60 people living with HIV (PLHIV) in bamboo bangle design and production workshops.

  • Created over 20 new bangle designs.

  • Formed an enterprise called Bamboo Chic with 19 of the most dedicated trainees.

  • Established a production workshop space for Bamboo Chic and made over 10 market linkages.

  • Achieved more than $15,000 in sales with over 1,000 bangles sold.

Donor: International HIV/AIDS Alliance - UK.
