Nicaragua › Manos Nicas Budget Accelerator

In April 2017, we participated in Reto Diseño (RD) in Nicaragua, a first-of-its-kind event focused on revitalizing design for local and global markets. We assessed the Nicaraguan artisan sector, identifying market potential in various crafts but noting a lack of design innovation and buyer linkages beyond the local market. We also engaged with USAID and Creative Associates to explore opportunities for young entrepreneurs in the emerging tourism industry on the Caribbean coast.

Key Achievements:

  • Identified market potential in pottery, basketry, wood carving, horn jewelry, and corn husk products.

  • Conducted an evaluation that found gaps in design innovation, textile traditions, and buyer linkages beyond local markets.

  • Linked opportunities with USAID and Creative Associates for young entrepreneurs, focusing on tourism.

  • Provided a comprehensive assessment report with key findings and action steps.
