Djibouti › Djibouti Propeja II
The Government of Djibouti, in collaboration with the World Bank, implemented the PROPEJA project to support women artisans by enhancing the innovation, development, and marketing of local products. We provided market-oriented product and design development, commercial training, and market linkages, benefiting 800 women through skills improvement and market access. Key activities included design training, organizing sales events, and developing marketing materials, targeting both local and international markets.
Key Achievements:
PROPEJA provided direct and indirect interventions, enhancing the technical and commercial skills of 800 women in basketry and beading.
495 new products and collections were developed, aligning with market needs and improving artisans' income-generating activities.
Artisans participated in sales events at various locations, including the Djibouti Fair, embassies, and the French Institute, generating significant sales.
Comprehensive marketing materials, such as catalogs, business cards, postcards, product sheets, and price lists, were created to support the artisans' commercial activities.
Active networking with hotels, airport officials, and the Tourism Office, along with professional buyer contacts, helped integrate Djiboutian crafts into broader markets, including international military bases and the Ethiopian market.
