Rural Developing Artisanal Livelihoods in Rural Pakistan (RANG)

In April 2016, we were contracted by the Indus Heritage Trust (IHT) to support their World Bank-funded project, “Developing Artisanal Livelihoods in Rural Pakistan - RANG,” aimed at improving the livelihoods of 2,600 rural women embroiderers in Punjab and Sindh. We helped IHT become market-ready for export, focusing on enhancing design, business practices, and market linkage strategies to appeal to the US market. Key strategies included positioning Pakistan as a design leader, leveraging high-quality fabrics, shifting focus to home décor, and improving business communication and transactions with US buyers.

Key Achievements:

  • Assisted 2,600 rural women embroiderers in Punjab and Sindh.

  • Conducted design workshops and export training with 20 local designers and entrepreneurs.

  • Developed over 80 new products.

  • Participated in three international trade shows in the US.

  • Generated approximately $27,000 in export sales and established ongoing relationships with over 15 US wholesalers and retailers.
