Mexico › Komon A'tel, Construyendo espacios de diálogo en San Juan Cancuc
The Komon A’tel project aimed to form and strengthen a territorial alliance between civil society organizations and communities in San Juan Cancuc, focusing on participatory municipal management of health and water issues, and enhancing local skills and productive enterprises. It involved supporting 15 localities through leadership training, the development of community health and water plans, and income-generating activities such as coffee growing, women’s entrepreneurship, and community savings funds.
Key Achievements:
Created five community water and health plans, established six water boards and six health committees with 30 men and 27 women.
Set up three community savings groups, with all participants benefiting from improved savings for health emergencies.
Joined 52 producers to "Batsiíl Lum," allowing 37 people to sell coffee at higher prices.
Provided 54 families with drinking water through ferrocement tanks and installed 8 dry toilets.
Increased family incomes significantly, with 37 families receiving 10-15% higher payments and the income increase indicator rising from 33% to 80%.
